“Our relationship goes a lot further than the regular
customer-supplier contact.
It feels more like partners.”

FACTS & FIGURES
PARTNERSHIP
Over the entire course of designing, engineering and building a ship, the owner’s wishes are central, albeit within the – often space related- limits of what is possible on board. Typically, someone who can afford to own such as ship is likely to be a critical and fastidious buyer, and that can give rise to some ‘interesting’ discussions… For example, the owner of Plvs Vltra insisted on having three C18 generators on board for its power supply, whereas three smaller generators – normally a standard design feature – would have delivered ample capacity. Sjoerd van den Broek: “It took some persuasive skills on our part, but eventually the customer saw that the overcapacity would only take up space with no measurable benefits. After some brain-teasing, François came up with a solution involving two C18s and a C9 that made everyone happy.” François Longayroux, Account Manager Yachting at Pon Power: “The people that buy these kinds of ships expect extremely high quality standards, so everything must be perfect inside and on the ship. Our ties with Amels have grown beyond the regular customer-supplier relationship. You can say we’ve developed a partnership based on loyalty and trust. You work together closely, you share every learning moment and every improvement that can benefit existing and future projects. That’s how we improve each other’s performance,- and these magnificent ships,- ongoing. It’s something we’re very proud of at Pon Power.”

is an exceptional and impressive luxury yacht. The majesty of this 74m long, five-stories high, bright white ship, is unmistakable, as she lays berthed at the quayside. This is a yacht that boasts not just one, but two swimming pools. My enquiry after the owner’s identity is politely met by Van den Broek with an unyielding, but courteous smile: discretion, at Amels, is a prized quality. But, when it comes to the relationship with Pon Power, he opens up: “With every ship we build, Pon Power is involved from the very first stages. François Longayroux of Pon Power is a familiar face here at the wharf, we see him almost every week. He offers input with our designs and feedback on our proposals. It’s a stable, ongoing relationship that enables us to constantly improve our products and ultimately deliver magnificent ships such as this.”
For several decades, Amels have worked closely with Pon Power with the installation of onboard propulsion and power systems. Recently, the Plvs Vltra was christened, a 74 meters long mega yacht in the Limited Editons Amels 242 range. Pon Power News was in Vlissingen to hear more.
Onboard the Plvs Vltra - the first Limited Edition Amels 242 in the range - we stand eye to eye with an impressive, all Caterpillar-sourced, 4,900kW engine capacity. “We’re part of the Damen Shipyards Group, and, as such, enjoy the benefits of a long and very intensive cooperation with Pon Power”, clarifies Sjoerd van den Broek, Project Manager at Amels. “Pon Power have supplied propulsion systems and generators for our ships for many years. We almost exclusively work with Cat engines, and we also used them in this Amels 242.” The Plvs Vltra
