PON POWER OFFERS SUSTAINABLE OPTION WITH CAT SOLAR

Pon Power and Caterpillar have taken a new step in the on-going transition towards more sustainable energy sources. Besides focusing on reducing greenhouse emissions through the adoption of cleaner and more efficient engines, Pon Power also aims to take advantage of the opportunities presented by this watershed period in energy economics. With the introduction of the Cat Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, Pon Power is the first Caterpillar dealer in Europe to offer businesses and public organisations a sustainable alternative for their power requirements.

INCREASED EFFICIENCY
The Cat Solar PV panels use Thin Film CdTe technology. Thin film panels can be up to 10% more efficient than the best multicrystalline solar systems. They also hold the world record for CdTe PV module efficiency, achieving up to 18.2% efficiency in the more advanced, larger modules. Furthermore, Cat Solar PV panels allow users to realise larger capacities within relatively modest networks. In addition, the innovative system means that they can install more capacity on a smaller roof surface. The panels were entirely developed in the US, with structural quality and innovative design as two key points of departure. Cat Solar PV panels also generate more power in warm climates, humid conditions and shade. The result? Lower overall costs.

TOTAL SOLUTIONS
Cat Solar PV panels can be fully integrated with existing systems like a cogeneration system or a backup power generator. Cat Solar PV panels furthermore come with a CAT warranty and can be supplemented with monitoring and performance assurance services.

TWO PON UNITS FOUND ON BOARD THE NETHERLANDS’ MOST SUSTAINABLE FISHING TRAWLER

The Urk family business Ekofish Group focuses on sustainable fishing. The group intends to build the world’s most sustainable fishing fleet, and to help realise this ambition, it has selected both Pon Power and EST-Floattech as suppliers.

UK205 Spes Nova, a twin-rigger/fly-shooter that is currently being built by Maaskant Shipyards in Stellendam, was designed in close consultation with Vripack Naval Architects. The trawler will be fitted with three identical diesel-electric Caterpillar generator sets, coupled to a power management system with battery storage.

In addition, the vessel will feature smart power recovery systems, which activate both when the trawler is paying out its lines and casting its trawls. Since the vessel is powered by its on-board batteries both when moored and when moving through the port area, it generates zero emissions. Together, these features yield the most powerful, efficient and sustainable vessel of its kind.

OVERHAULS MORE ECONOMICAL AND SUSTAINABLE THANKS TO NEW ‘REPAIR OPTIONS’ SERVICE

Pon Power has developed a new custom overhaul service for its inland shipping clients: Repair Options. In this new service, which is available as of today, shipping companies and ship’s masters can re-use original parts that are still in good shape during the overhaul of their CAT engine. This allows the client to take advantage of the full potential of the CAT engine and its components against lower costs than in the case of replacement with new parts. Moreover, this service option can help reduce down-time costs: in some cases, an overhaul that would otherwise have to be postponed can go ahead.

SUSTAINABLE, ECONOMICAL, EFFICIENT
Repair Options combines the re-use of components that still work as intended with a warranty for the overhaul and parts. This makes it a particularly sustainable, economical and efficient alternative. The service is offered for water pumps, cylinder heads, turbos, oil pumps, fuel pumps and regulators.
